VETERAN LEADER OF P&T AND CG
EMPLOYEES MOVEMENT PASSES AWAY
Comrade O.P.Gupta the former
Secretary General of undivided P&T trade
union movement called the NFPTE has breathed his last on 6th
January, 2013 at about 5.00 P.M in New Delhi. This is undoubtedly an irreparable
loss to the movement of working class. Comrade OPG was one of the towering
leaders of P&T trade union movement. He took up the leadership of UPTW
prior to the formation of NFPTE during the British Rule. He gave leadership at a time when the
movement required an young and dynamic
leader to fight against the Government. He had been at the helm of
affairs at the all India level in one
capacity or other for a very long time. He was the General Secretary of R4
NFPTE; General Secretary of E3 NFPTE; Secretary General of NFPTE; Member of the
JCM Standing Committee and National Council JCM representing the NFPTE. In
those days on each and every issue on which ideological and intellectual battles
used to rage, his voice had always been one of most important and un-ignorable,
even though on many occasions his positions had been strongly disapproved by
other towering leaders. Great controversies had erupted on many issues on which
he took his line, even the P&T movement faced a virtual split at the
Federation level, but surprisingly the movement had once again reunited through
the efforts of many leaders including that of Comrade OPG. Until bifurcation of
P&T department and consequently the NFPTE into NFPE and NFTE, he remained a
leader of unquestionable supremacy. Even inside the movement of NFPE, Comrade
OPG played his due role for a long time until he gave up the position of
General Secretary in R4 union.
The demise of Comrade OPG is not
only a loss to the Telecom masses; it is a huge loss to all working class.
Let us dip our banner in honour of this
legendary leader and mourn deeply.
Long Live the memories of Comrade
O.P.Gupta
